2019 Silver Proof Set Released With 2019W Reverse Proof Penny

Set to release today by the United States Mint is the 2019 Silver Proof Set in Original Government Packaging. If you do not perceive this as a big deal, to each their own. If you DO perceive this as a bigger release than normal, you have realized that contained in this annual set is the second of the special edition 2019 W pennies to be released this year.

The first special edition penny was the 11th coin of the annual 10-coin release that makes up the 2019 Clad Proof Set. It was a proof version struck at the West Point Mint and was sealed in a secured US Mint plastic wrap.

The second 2019 West Point Minted penny release contained in the 10-coin annual release of the silver proof set has a reverse proof finish and is also kept separately in a sealed plastic wrap by the US Mint, making it the 11th coin in the set. The Uncirculated Coin Set in May will wrap up the three special edition pennies as it will include an uncirculated 2019 W penny.

Per usual, the 2019 Silver Proof Set includes the Native American $1 Coin with the image of Mary Golda Ross calculating equations as a symbol of the presence of the Native American Space Program, a silver Kennedy half dollar, a silver Roosevelt dime, a Jefferson Nickel, and a Lincoln cent.

The silver versions of the five America the Beautiful Quarters include the depictions of Lowell National History Park in Massachusetts, the American Memorial Park in the Northern Mariana Islands, the War in the Pacific National Historical Park in Guam, the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park in Texas, and the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness in Idaho.

Something new to recognize within this set is the Mint’s switch to 99.9% silver in the quarters as well as the dime and half dollar. Previous sets included these same coins made up of only 90% silver, making this year’s 2019-dated coins the first of their kind.
