Two 2020-W Quarters Released Into Circulation

Back in late-January, we announced the United States Mint’s plans and beginning stages of production of the 2020-W America the Beautiful circulating quarter dollars. Like last year in 2019 when they, for the first time ever, released circulating quarters with the ‘W’ mintmark on the obverse representing West Point, they decided to follow up with a 2020-W version. Although this year, they once again upped their game and decided to release them with a special privy mark.

In conjunction with the 75th Anniversary of the end of the Second World War, the Mint has added a privy mark to the left of George Washington’s profile recognizing the highly important time in our nation’s history. The privy mark reads “V75” and has been sculpted directly into the master die for production. They plan on releasing the same amount as last year, 10 million total, with two million of each of the five designs circulating among quarter dollars from both Philadelphia and Denver.

With plans on just releasing the Weir Farm National Historic Site design on April 6th, the Mint confirmed that they also released the American Samoa design via the Federal Reserve into circulation. One million of each design were sent to both the Philadelphia and Denver Mints to be mixed into bulk bags for release and sold to coin dealers. The Mint believes it will take up to four to six weeks for those coins to be seen in circulation.

The releases for the remaining three designs are at this time still scheduled for later in the year. The Salt Bay River National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve are set for June 1st, the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park set for August 31st, and the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve is set for November 16th.
