Eisenhower Dollars
Introduced in 1971, the Eisenhower Dollar holds significant historical importance, being the first large-size dollar coin issued for circulation since the Peace Dollar of 1935. This Eisenhower Dollar coin emerged during a time of economic change in the U.S., marked by inflation and shifts in monetary policy. The coin's introduction was influenced by the need to bolster public confidence in the currency and promote coin usage over paper money.
The U.S. Mint played a crucial role in the production of the Eisenhower Dollar. Designed by Chief Engraver Frank Gasparro, the coin features a striking depiction of Eisenhower on the obverse and an eagle landing on the moon on the reverse, symbolizing the United States' achievements in space exploration. The minting process was meticulously managed to ensure high-quality production, with Eisenhower Dollar coins minted at facilities in Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco.
