Capped Bust Half Dollar Coins
Minted from 1807 through 1839, Bust half dollar issues bridge the evolution from largely hand-driven methods to more standardized mechanical processes. The series is divided into two primary subtypes by edge style: Lettered Edge (1807–1836) and Reeded Edge (1836–1839). Both subtypes were struck in an alloy of 89.24% silver and 10.76% copper, with diameter and rim characteristics adjusting modestly as technology advanced. Weight adhered largely to the standard set by the Coinage Act of 1792 until refinements were implemented in the 1830s.
