America the Beautiful Quarter Program

Launched in 2010, the program was authorized by the America’s Beautiful National Parks Quarter Dollar Coin Act of 2008. It followed the massively popular 50 State Quarters and D.C. and U.S. Territories series, shifting the focus from state emblems to the landscapes and landmarks managed by federal agencies. Each quarter paired a standard obverse portrait of George Washington with a distinctive reverse celebrating a site of national significance. In official terms, the America the Beautiful Quarter Program positioned national parks and historic sites at the forefront of circulating coinage.

The series ran from 2010 through 2021, releasing five coins per year from 2010 to 2020 and concluding with a single 2021 issue. The 56 reverse designs include one for each state, the District of Columbia, and the territories of Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands. As part of the United States Mint's America the Beautiful Quarters Program, each site selection reflected a balance of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and historical significance across all jurisdictions.
