Exploring the Reverse of '07 Mint Error
In early 2007, the United States Mint decided to modify the reverse design of the American Silver Eagle for the upcoming 2008 Silver Eagles. However, in the midst of the transition, the Mint unintentionally struck several 2008 W Burnished Silver Eagle coins featuring the older reverse design that were only to have appeared on pre-2008 coins. The difference appears in the letter fonts, more specifically the 'U' in UNITED. The 2007 coins lack the serif on the right lower hand side of the U. From 2008 onward, all the Silver Eagle coins contain the serif on the bottom right. In this case, the coin does not include the serif.
