The United States Mint is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Sacagawea dollar by releasing a 24kt Golden Dollar Coin tomorrow beginning at 12pm EST!
First produced in 2000, the Sacagawea dollar is most recognizable by its golden hue, often referred to as the golden dollar. However, the coin is comprised of manganese brass. The famous design features Sacagawea with her infant son, Jean Baptiste, on her back. The coin was struck from 2000 to 2008, with the series changing in 2009 to carry a different reverse annually to celebrate the contributions made by Native American individuals to the United States.
Struck at West Point, the 2025 $1 Gold Sacagawea Coin will be struck in a Proof finish and be comprised of 1/2oz of .9999 fine 24kt gold. The obverse will feature the same portrait of Sacagawea with her son with the inscriptions LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 2025. The reverse will depict the soaring eagle surrounded by 17 stars representing each state in the Union at the time of the 1804 Lewis and Clark expedition. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and ONE DOLLAR will also be inscribed.
The stunning coin will have a product and mintage limit of just 7,500 and a household limit of one. The extremely limited coin will come in a black presentation case accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
