1926 D Peace Silver Dollar
REVERSE: Features a calm American eagle resting on a rock holding an olive branch, with rays rising behind it to symbolize a new dawn. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and E PLURIBUS UNUM appear above, while ONE DOLLAR and PEACE anchor the bottom. The eagle’s peaceful posture contrasts with the Morgan Dollar’s aggressive imagery, reinforcing the coin’s message of reconciliation rather than triumph. The mint mark 'D" is seen just to the left of the eagle's tailfeather.
OBVERSE: Depicts a left-facing Liberty wearing a radiant crown reminiscent of the Statue of Liberty’s spikes. Her flowing hair and sharp contours reflect contemporary artistic sensibilities rather than classical styles. Inscriptions include LIBERTY, the motto IN GOD WE TRUST, and the date 1926 at the base. Anthony de Francisci’s modern interpretation gives the coin a bold, sculptural look.
Peace Dollars
The Peace Dollar was authorized to commemorate the end of World War I and the nation’s aspiration for lasting peace. It succeeded the Morgan Dollar and stands as the last silver dollar struck for circulation in the classic era. Sculptor Anthony de Francisci won a national competition to design the coin, presenting a bold, modern vision that captured America’s transition from wartime to peace. It is a hallmark United States silver dollar struck from 1921 to 1928 and again in 1934 and 1935, with modern issues resuming in 2021. It honors peace while offering collectors a compelling blend of artistry, history, and intrinsic silver content.
