The fifth and final release in the Best of the Mint series will be available from the United States Mint tomorrow beginning at 12pm EST. The Mint will honor the impact of the 1907 Saint-Gaudens High Relief $20 Gold Coin.
Honoring America’s semiquincentennial, the Mint has put together a five-set series paying homage to United States coinage. The sets will feature a reissued gold coin along with companion silver medals depicting modern designs and reflecting the meaning of their gold counterparts.
Like the 1907 version, the $20 High Relief Saint-Gaudens coin from West Point will showcase Liberty on the obverse. Striding forward with her hair blowing in the wind and her left foot raised on a rock, she holds a torch in her right hand and a branch in her left. The sunrays and Capitol building are in the background. LIBERTY and MCMVII are inscribed, and the Liberty Bell privy mark with the number 250 is featured on the right. The familiar eagle in flight is on the reverse as it soars above the sun. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and TWENTY DOLLARS are inscribed along the top. On theme with the original design, E PLURIBUS UNUM is inscribed on the coin's edge.
Incorporating the same elements from the gold coin, the 1oz silver companion medal from Philadelphia depicts the modern version of Liberty with her flowing hair holding a torch in her hand and an olive branch in the other. LIBERTY and 13 stars representing the original colonies are featured along the edge. Continuing on the reverse is the updated version of the soaring eagle above the sun. The eagle's wings are an American flag representing strength and pride. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is inscribed.
A mintage limit of 15,000 and household limit of one have been set.
