We are halfway through January and our shipping and fulfillment department have been busy nonstop after the presale of both the 2020 Brilliant Uncirculated and Proof American Silver Eagles. Not to mention the 2020-W Congratulations Set Proof American Silver Eagle. Big releases indeed from the United States Mint. However, they still have a plethora of product releases for the new year to come and we have not even scratched the surface of it.

Confederate Paper Money Series Part IV: The Trans-Mississippi Notes

The Civil War saw a number of disruptions from each side, making it more difficult to maintain their armies and military companies at full strength. Both the North and the South divided military theaters, or areas in which military events occur or progressing, into a number of departments. To just name a few for the South, the Confederacy divided had the Department of Northern Virginia and the Department of North Carolina and Southern Virginia. Our focus here in this edition of the Confederate Paper Money blog series is the Confederate’s Trans-Mississippi Department and the notes that came from it.

100 Greatest U.S. Modern Coins Series: 2012-S $1 American Silver Eagle, Reverse Proof

2019 saw perhaps one of the biggest United States Mint releases to date: the 2019 S Enhanced Reverse Proof Silver American Eagle. It was a first of its kind and even more noteworthy is its mintage as a maximum of just 30,000 was produced for the world. However, without prior releases from the United States Mint, the buildup of that coin would have not been possible. How so? Let us explain.

Next in our series focusing on Whitman Publishing’s fourth edition publication of the top 100 Greatest United States Coins, we take a look at another first of its kind in the American Silver Eagle wheelhouse. Dated 2012 and accompanied by a companion piece, this...read more

2020-W Proof SAE To Be Released Once Again In Conjunction With the Congratulations Set

The year 2020 has just begun and it is already full of United States Mint releases. While not first up on their production schedule, the release of the American Eagle One Ounce Silver Proof Coin and the 2020 Congratulations Set in Original Government Packaging is surely their first big hitter. Even more so because they, like last year, are being released simultaneously during the Florida United Numismatist (F.U.N.) Show in Orlando tomorrow.

Essentially the same coin but in different packaging, the American Eagle One Ounce Silver Proof Coin features Adolph A. Weinman’s figure of Lady Liberty on the obverse. The reverse features the heraldic eagle with a shield, an olive branch in its right...read more

Well, what if we told you you could have a chance at all of that while also learning history and geography while merging the old with the new? To be curt, that is exactly what coin collecting can do.

In our last blog in this Young Collector series, we talked about how coin collecting and the numismatic hobby itself nine times out of ten is a generational pass down. The End (And Beginning) Of A Decade

Decade [dek-eyd], noun: a period of ten years.

More than halfway through our 31st year here at The Coin Vault, it is hard to believe how quickly the last ten years, or this last decade, has gone. With time like that there ultimately comes change and well, we have encountered that too. Some small, some big, but in the grand scheme of things, for the better.

With as eventful as the last couple of years have been in the hobby, it is hard telling what the future holds for us in the new year and the new decade, but we believe it to be bright and hopeful. The United States Mint has done an extraordinary ...read more
